Installation Tips for MCL-Client or MCL-Code Interpreter
Microsoft ActiveSync is necessary to synchronize terminals using Microsoft Windows Pocket PC/CE and WM2003. Therefore, ActiveSync is required instead of MCL-Loader to load MCL-Client or MCL-Code Interpreter depending on the MCL version.

Installation Tips for MCL-Client v3.x for Pocket PC/CE/WM2003:

  1. Download the appropriate MCL-Client Runtime from the web site.
  2. ActiveSync is needed to install the MCL runtime on your Symbol terminal.
  3. Connect your computer to the Symbol terminal, launch ActiveSync and copy the cab file, downloaded from the MCL website, into a folder on the Symbol terminal.
  4. Next, on the Symbol terminal, locate and double click the MCL file and MCL will install. Note: Once this is complete be sure to disable ActiveSync on both your computer and Symbol terminal to utilize MCL communication with MCL-Net or MCL-Link.

Installation Tips for MCL-Code Interpreter v2.6x for Pocket PC/CE/WM2003:
  1. Download the appropriate MCL-Code Interpreter Runtime from the web site.
  2. ActiveSync is needed to install the MCL runtime on your Symbol terminal.
  3. Once the MCL-Code Interpreter file is downloaded locate it on your computer and double-click on it, this will uncompress the file and alert ActiveSync that this file needs to be processed.
  4. Connect your computer to the Symbol terminal, launch ActiveSync on your computer and the file will be downloaded.
  5. Next, on the Symbol terminal, locate and double click the MCL file and MCL will install. Note: Once this is complete be sure to disable ActiveSync on both your computer and Symbol terminal to utilize MCL communication with MCL-Net or MCL-Link.

Installation Tips for MCL-Code Interpreter v2.6x for Palm:
  1. Download the appropriate MCL-Code Interpreter Runtime from the web site.
  2. HotSync is needed to install the MCL runtime on your Symbol Palm terminal.
  3. Once the MCL-Code Interpreter file is downloaded locate it on your computer and double-click on it, this will uncompress the file and alert HotSync that this file needs to be processed.
  4. Connect your computer to the Symbol terminal, launch HotSync on your computer and the file will be downloaded.
  5. Next, on the Symbol terminal, locate and double click the MCL file and MCL will install. Note: Once this is complete be sure to disable Hotsync on both your computer and Symbol terminal to utilize MCL communication with MCL-Net or MCL-Link.

MCL software is not fully operational until it is activated, however it will run in demo mode.

Note: if ActiveSync is not installed on your computer, it can be downloaded from Microsoft's web site, www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/activesync35.asp.

After loading the MCL Runtime into the Symbol terminal, the next operation is to Activate the license. The Activation process requires either:

  1. MCL V2.6x: an MCL-Code Interpreter/units dongle, which attaches to the host computer's parallel port. Dongles are purchased with a predefined number of "units". A unit is valid MCL software license, used during the Activation process. The Symbol batch terminals require one (1) unit and an Radio Frequency (RF-Spectrum24) terminal requires two (2) units.
  2. MCL v3.x: an MCL-License for MCL-Client, which is delivered via email. All Symbol terminals require only one (1) license to operate in non-demo mode (regardless of batch or RF)

To demonstrate an application or for testing purposes, MCL-Client or MCL-Code Interpreter can be used in Demo mode on the Symbol terminal.
